Castable Fire Brick (AWP)

AW Perkins Castable Firebrick is a heat resistant dry material, which after mixing with water chemically sets brick hard. Cast a solid firebox bed or into custom sized firebrick tailored to your exact requirements. A 12.5 lbs. container of castable firebrick will cast a 12" x 12" x 1.5" square. Properly dried it withstands 2200 degrees F operating temp.
Made in the USA.
Wear appropriate protection while using.
Allow to cure for 24 hours.
Drys to a tan gray color. Can be painted with high temp stove paint.

When repairing horizontally oriented areas Castable Firebrick may be poured directly into place. Ideally cast thicknessshould be 1" thick or more. To control crack locations make a joint every 12" or so by separating castings with thin panels such as sheet metal. Clean all dirt, loose, and foreign material from area to be cast.

If using forms to cast shapes for later placement in a non horizontal locations plan you work well and be sure to have support. Forms should be waterproof to prevent water absorption. This product has no adhesive qualities and is usually mortared in place with refractory cement.

We will not be held responsible for improperly cured firebrick.

Mix 25 to 28 oz of water (if using entire pail). Measure water to match dry mix amount. Add some of the water in mixing container then add castable firebrick. Mix. Add most of the remainder of the water. Mix thoroughly. Test a small amount of mixture by making a ball and tossing it an inch or so above your hand. If it crumbles, add more water try again until it does not crumble.

For horizontal casting in place (firebox floor) mist the surrounding material with water lightly. There is no need to moisten area if using forms. Pour castable firebrick into form or area to be cast. Smooth by patting to remove air pockets. Do not repeatedly trowel smooth to a slick finish, simply screen off and flatten by patting or use limited trowel strokes. You will need to make a cast form to the size you need. Allow mixture to set in cast for at least 24 hours at or above 60 degrees. Use caution when firing new brick (a small fire is best). we recommend 3 to 7 days of curing for bricks that will be used in outdoor fire pits. Cover while drying to retain moisture and protect casting. Cast brick will retain water so use caution when firing recently made bricks. After mortaring in place you may start a small fire. Temperatures below freezing should be avoided until product is dry as splitting could occur.
