PYROCERAM CERAMIC GLASS - STOVE GLASS available in 3/16" thickness only. Only genuine pyroceram ceramic glass is used High temperature Pyroceram ceramic glass is suitable for use in wood, pellet and coal burning stoves. It's thermal shock rating of 1380° F makes it ideal for any application where high temperature tolerance is required. Rarely used for fireplace doors. It often is used in industrial high temperature applications.
We currently stock Pyroceram, there is no visual or performance difference between pyroceram, neoceram, or robax, The difference is just trademarks, all 3 are transparent high temperature ceramic glass with a 1380° F thermal shock tolerance with a slight amber tint, slight texture, and available in 5mm (3/16) thickness
TEMPERED GLASS The most common glass used in fireplace doors is tempered glass, due to its high mechanical strength. Tempered glass is 4 to 7 times stronger than regular glass. It's 400° F thermel shock rating is high enough for use in glass fireplace screens and doors. FireplaceDoorsOnline.com recommends a clearance of at least 4 to 6 inches between glass surfaces and fireplace grates. It is also suitable for any other application that calls for added safety and strength of tempered glass.
The breakage pattern of tempered glass is very different from regular glass. Regular glass breaks into long splinters. Tempered Glass will fragment into small bits and the entire glass will fragment.
Available in thickness of 1/8 - 3/16 - 1/4 inch Colors Clear, Bronze, and Light Gray Smoked
MICA MICA is a transparent mineral used in older coal and wood stoves. It is sold in thickness of between .003 and .005. It has the appearance and flexibility of clear plastic, can be cut with scissors, and withstands temperatures of 1800° F. Because it is a naturally occurring mineral, several small pieces are lower in price than one larger piece. For example, 4 pieces 3 x 4 cost $63.76, however one 6 x 8 piece cost $96.48
TEMPAX Tempax is a borosilicate glass similar to Pyrex. The float process used in manufacturing gives it a more flawless texture and appearance than Pyrex. Usually it is used in wood stoves and small heaters in small strips. It's thermal shock rating of 580° F and crystal clear appearance makes it suitable for high temperature light fixtures where the added safety of tempered glass is not necessary or required. Due to it's low mechanical strength, it is not recommended for use in large pieces.
We do pattern cuts. You will find them on each size. For other sizes or custom cuts call or e-mail 814-723-4185 - request@starbrickstoves.com
